Types and
uses of Bubble Wrap®
Bubble Wrap® was invented by two engineers, Alfred Fielding and Marc Chavannes, in 1957. They were trying to come up with a plastic wall paper and instead they turned around and used their invention for
packaging and cushioning products. They founded Sealed Air Corporation in 1960 and since
Bubble Wrap® was born.
Bubble Wrap® is 2 thin sheets of poly material with small air bubbles encased between them that provide an excellent cushioning when wrapped around fragile items.
Also the Bubble Wrap® material is made of an anti-
static component that dissolves static charges, so when wrapped around electronic components like electronic chips, it protects them from busting.
Small cell bubble sheeting, or
small air bubbles, is for
wrapping items, providing surface protection. Large cell bubble sheeting, or large air
Bubble Wrap®, is for packing and cushioning.
There are different types of Bubble Wrap® including
Bubble Wrap® cushioned mailers,
Bubble Wrap® rolls, bubble bags
and Bubble Wrap®
Pouches that you can use for shipping, storing or protecting breakables and valuables with good cushioning against shock.
Bubble Cushioned Mailers are thick Kraft paper envelopes lined on the inside with
Bubble Wrap®, or durable water resistant poly material
mailers.
Both envelopes are commonly used to ship and mail small and fragile items like jewelry,
CD's and other non-bendable material.
Mailing a Bubble Wrap® envelope is cheaper than mailing a box
with the cushioning material in it. You could even use bubble wrap envelopes to safely store items in your drawers. and
cabinets.
Bubble Wrap® Rolls are available in lightweight, medium and heavy duty. The smaller the bubbles, the lighter the item to be wrapped has to be. Use the large bubbles, heavy duty
Bubble Wrap®, to wrap and for cushioning
(like the corners of a box)
Bubble Wrap® Bags, commonly used to ship electronic parts, are easy to use and very practical. Since the bag is only made with the transparent material of the
Bubble Wrap®, it's convenient because you can see what's in it.
Bubble Wrap® Pouches. They can come in very small sizes and can be
used at home to protect small jewelry items and large enough to insert a large
expensive and delicate dish and You can easily and quickly fill many Bubble
Wrap®
pouches an then fit them all in one box without the
hassle of wrapping each item individually.
Some of the benefits of Bubble Wrap® is that it's light weight, cheaper in shipping and packaging costs, it's water resistant and very practical.
Just remember that Bubble Wrap® can be used in a lot of ways for a variety of things. Disposing of it would be such a waste. Re-use it - recycle it.
